DISTINCTIVENESS
Our college is one of the premier institutions of higher education in the state of Goa, established in 1988, for imparting knowledge to the students from rural areas. Situated in the serene Sanquelim town, it caters mainly to the Sattari and Bicholim talukas. The college provides conducive and healthy environment to pursue higher education regardless of caste, creed or gender. This has attracted a large number of students (around 1500 for consecutive three years), which includes about 25% of SC / ST / OBC, minority communities along with a few international students. The college has seventeen UG departments and three PG departments (MA in Economics and Hindi and MSc in Mathematics). Empowerment of women is reflected through the high percentage of female students (more than 62%) and a large number of female staff.
In keeping with the vision of the institution “Empowerment for social transformation through holistic education with a humane approach” as set forth in its statement, the college provides ample opportunities to the students from different streams to mingle together in academic as well as sports, cultural and other extra-curricular activities organized through different fora. The College organises various activities such as seminars, workshops, conferences, skill oriented certificate courses to promote a holistic teaching-learning environment. The spirit of social responsibility towards community development and nation building is inculcated through, Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat (EBSB), Eco- Club, NSS, NCC etc. To make students aware of the wider social context in which they live, they are encouraged to participate in regular programmes organised by the college, including community service, blood donation, gender and environmental awareness. In addition, the counselling and mentoring undertaken can serve as transformer and reformer for overall development of the stakeholder.
Further they are aided by excellent infrastructural facilities including internet facility (free Wi-Fi up to 1 GB/day), language laboratories, spacious and well equipped science laboratories, computerised library (591 sq. mts. with 150 seating capacity of readers) and an auditorium with three digital podiums (400 seating capacity). The college has facility to access online journals under N-List programme of INFLIBNET and computerized with e-Granthalaya software. In order to improve teaching methodology, the college has also installed 19 smart classrooms along with one virtual classroom. In addition, the College
facilitates regular interactions through seminars, workshops, conferences, special lectures, educational field trips, industrial visits etc leading to healthy and vast exposure to our stakeholders. The college also has well equipped Gymkhana to cater the needs of sports persons
Thus, increased number of programs, well developed infrastructure, faculty guidance, library facilities, sports and extracurricular activities plays a very significant role in the improvement of students’ proficiencies. Thus, our college strives to provide the best facilities to rural students almost at their doorsteps.
